Summary/Abstract: The volume Poems of Exile signed by Virgil Ierunca is a variant of the Notebooks of longing, a lyric of exile, the way to tell the truth and to reveal in the lyrics the soul presses of its actors. The idea of exile is presented both in the outer plane and in the inner plane of the human being who lives a permanent distance from those around him. Far from the country, home and land, among strangers, he returns through memory "and sees the country as a greeting of light, the house as a measure of peace and the earth as a joy of being. The pilgrim leaves only to return again, when he returns, he learns to live, to say, to do and to die ”.Exile is considered a worthy place of question, of the difficulty of living, but also of creating art. Like many writers in exile, he believes that art is about freedom, and the essential condition of existence and manifestation of the artistic act is freedom too. He rejects art without any purpose and defines this concept as an elevation to Ethos. The volume of the poems is about an excessive interiorization, an ambiguous lyrical discourse and sometimes is given, and the metaphor is always frequent. Under the influence of the poet-philosopher Lucian Blaga, from which Virgil Ierunca translated representative pages, it can be observed the approach of the theme of the great passage, as well as the reason for the silence or the slide towards the eminescian poetry from which the elegiac tone is also presented. Because they are always looking for a little paradise, the original space, the home icon, the feelings of loneliness and sadness are common, and the foreign word appears as a true obsession. However, the theme of light in opposition to darkness, but also the invocation of divinity, suggests the idea of hope, of communion, by the fact that light will help him find the way back home, and with the help of through poetry his fulfillment.Virgil Ierunca's poems can be read as a book of remoteness and loneliness, the poet being obsessed with the loss of a world, a solemn poetry crossed by the boundlessness of thought, the nostalgia of the country and the homeland, of the lost man living the painful spectacle of truth. In such a situation, the deity that should confer a meaning is also a Great Anonymous, the path to it being censored. That is why the poetic self has only the possibility of creating its own beliefs.Through his lyrics, Virgil Ierunca manages to warn that truth, as a healing source, can be told in any form, through creation, even in a space of rupture and longing, as a continuous form to a place of eternal return. His poems are an invitation to meditate on the human destiny, of the sacrifice for the salvation of the national values that the man notices in his moments of fulfillment, a poetry that fits into the modernist current through themes, literary motifs and expression.
