Summary/Abstract: The article presents the method of Historical Spatial Codes used to diagnose the state of protection of historical urban and landscape structures in the context of the provisions of local spatial development plans for the area of the Poznań poviat. The presented study is a synthetic record prepared on the basis of a monograph in which the method was widely described in 2019. The aim of the study is to answer the question whether the current spatial and planning policy of municipalities is a sufficient tool for the protection of historical urban and landscape structures (settlement) of poznań poviat communes – areas of cultural and landscape value – and to what extent it meets these needs. The HKP method consists of five stages – analyses: stage 1 – Historical Spatial Code, stage 2 – Composition, stage 3 – Attributes of space, stage 4 – MPZP, analysis of records of local spatial development plans and stage 5 – Comparison of HKP and MPZP. Analyses are carried out on the basis of historical maps and records of local spatial development plans. The built set of indicators and models of representative historical structures was used to analyze the state of spatial development of municipalities. The research concerned the sustainable development of municipalities in historical-cultural and planning-landscape aspects. Historical-spatial analysis covered the period from the end of the nineteenth century and statistical analysis of the years 2000–2017. Comparative and linear ordering methods were used for the overall assessment. The conducted research and analyses have shown, among other things, a significant variation in the development of municipalities in cultural and spatial aspects due to the level and dynamics of spatial planning and the low level of protection of historical urban and landscape structures.
