Summary/Abstract: Katalin Ladik’s self-focused, neo-avant-garde multimedia art and activity as a performance artist gives her a unique place among Hungarian actors and actresses in Vojvodina. Ottó Tolnai dedicated his monodrama Bayer Aspirin to her. The poetic text resisted the requirements of the psychological realist paradigm in almost every aspect, its dramaturgy and the weaving of its motivic web were guided by free associations, metaphors, metonymies, and poetic visions, rather than by its reduced plot. The text was staged by Miklós Jancsó at the Theatre of Novi Sad. Ladik described the performance as a “ritual happening” because its form was both “ritually bound and loosely performance-like.” As a performer, she often changed her stage gestures and vocalizations according to her emotional state of the moment. This monodrama was an important phase in her career, as her identity as a performer, actress, and poet interacted with each other.
