Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I examine the relationship between the genre of debate theatre and the different memory models; and how debate theatre can display and create a connection between individual, collective, and historical memory. As a case study, I analyse the performance entitled Our Adulthood ’89 created and played by a community of civilians over the age of sixty. In the performance, they recall the social and political events of the Hungarian regime change in 1989-1990. During the performance, viewers become spectators and are included in the process of remembering and examining the connection between our past and present.
