Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the issues of creating and promoting rural public spaces in the Pomeranian region. Public space is a special place especially in rural areas because it has a key social significance (integration place of residents) and spatial. It determines the quality of life, competitiveness and attractiveness of the region – tourism, settlement and investment. he need for well-designed common places in the countryside is not only more and more often noticed, but also promoted by local and regional governments and rural communities. Public space needs people, because they determine its value in the context of the development of interpersonal relations. An example of good practice in the aspect of creating and promoting generally available values of rural public spaces of the study area is the competition “The Best Public Space of the Pomeranian Voivodeship”. The paper illustrates the rules of the competition and analyzes the projects awarded and distinguished by the competition commission in the years 2006–2021 for the development of public spaces in the villages of the Pomeranian region. Projects presenting high-quality solutions, adapted to the nature of the environment – initiatives that reflect modern architectural and urban trends in the region were appreciated. The investments implemented in Pomeranian villages confirm the need to create common spaces and set the desired directions and trends in the development of rural public spaces. The projects promoted in the competition are a role model for other towns, and the competition is a form of motivation for local governments to undertake new interesting projects and arrange public spaces in the villages of the Pomeranian region.
