Summary/Abstract: The dynamic development of teaching Polish as a foreign language, together with the official certification of this language knowledge, leads to the necessity in examination of communication needs and language preferences of young Ukrainians. In the article, we highlighted the usefulness of the Polish language among Polish philology students and language courses in north-western Ukraine. The study involved students of two universities, namely the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and the National University of Ostroh Academy. An analysis of the motivational factors for learning Polish among the respondents from Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and the National University of Ostroh Academy shows that young people understand the importance and significance of foreign languages, including Slavic ones, in the modern world.
