Summary/Abstract: Beginning from the era of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, the economic, political, social, and military transformations of the Ottoman Empire have been portrayed by some academic and intellectual circles as a continuous “decline” and “degradation” without deep analysis or historical methodological criteria. This conceptualization, which emerged in the 17th century and continues to have an impact to this day, has been criticized by Ottoman history experts who have conducted in-depth analyses, especially in the last twenty-five years. This study evaluates and exemplifies why the “decline paradigm” that began with the Ottoman nasihatname authors and was solidified by the Euro-centric orientalist perspectives is inconsistent.
