Summary/Abstract: The new provisions of the Treaty of Amsterdam on the EU have been accepted. However, they are not precise enough and do not have consistent content. They contain guarantees that the existing system will not be threatened by the introduction of the "BS" institute. However, the dangers to the process of further EU integration should not be underestimated, such as:- weakened sense of belonging to the Community/Union,- fragmentation of the legal order and jurisprudence of the Community/Union,- complication of community procedures, - weakening of the Commission's role as a representative of common interests,- the functioning of "close cooperation" within the current unconsolidated institutional system that has not been reformed to enable expansion.Let's hope that in the context of the expansion of the Union to the East, close cooperation will be decisive in bringing together the opposites between, on the one hand, the members of the Monetary Union and the newly arrived members, on the other. With enlargement, the Union will become more diverse than ever before. Then we will rightfully be able to ask ourselves what the new Europe is. The vision of a "greater Europe" is seductive, but there is still a long way to go before it becomes a reality.
