Summary/Abstract: Absence of girls' exposure to the same situations and behaviors specific to men can be detrimental to achieving gender equality in all areas of activity. Very often girls do not experience the level of exposure or encouragement to which boys are exposed. This is often subtle, but it is the first obstacle faced by women. Pre-school is the age at which children begin to build their identity as boys and girls, developing their self-esteem. So, this is the ideal time to transmit the essential message that girls and boys have the same value in our society. Parents of boys have traditional perceptions about gender roles. Also, boys fathers tend to focus more on the traditional role of family support than girls fathers; while mothers of boys put more emphasis on their role as family caretaker.
