Summary/Abstract: As a representative figure of the Romanian romanticism, M.E. wrote down and kept entire literary logs or records, containing so-called creative notes whereby he analyzed and theorized various sciences such as physics, biology, chemistry and, last but not least, mathematics, by using thoughts and images. Being like Nietzsche, dominated by the same feeling of happiness of the one who wants to know and knows everything, the self-taught omniscient Eminescu studies the laws of physics, the mechanics, electricity, magnetism, energy, heating power and the conservation of matter with keen interest and great attention. Considering the number as a measure of all things in the universe, the poet analyzes the basic arithmetic that lies behind everything, the theory of the universal equation, the relation between the square and the circle, defining both, life and death, with the help of mathematics. Eminescu places at the center of his scientific preoccupations the man and the relation between him, as a microcosm, on the one hand, and the universe, as a macrocosm, on the other hand. From his perspective, the man is nothing but a mere mechanism, an interlaid piece of machinery, which has only one point of gravity, i.e. the soul. Much in a similar way to that of a true scientist, he manages to demonstrate that the universe is in a continuous movement and he also explains the relationship between man and universe by means of an analogy to the relationship between the square and the circle. His ideas related to science are afterwards artistically transfigured in his poetic creation through the words he puts down, dictated by his immense artistic sensitivity.
