Summary/Abstract: The article itemizes and describes particular means of the intensification of expressive possibilities in Croatian language realized in Šimić's opus. (Antun Branko Šimić, 1898-1925, Croatian poet.) These means are the following: 1. syntactic (especially in creative experimentation with verbal government); 2. prosodic (rythmical and accential); 3. that of word formation and transformation; 4. phonological (paronimia/paronomasia); 5. orthographic (punctuation or its elimination); and 6. lexical: so, one of the key-words of the expressionist poetics and in the authorial poetics of poet Simić himself, the very word scream (krik) and its synonymic derivate s as the expression of social protest and selfaffirmation, becomes transformed and overpowered by silence (tišina) in a sort of the oxymoronic procedure. All the enumerated means are subjected to an essay of interpretation regarding the postulate s of expressionist poetics and of that formulated by the poet himself in his critical and essayistic texts.
