Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of the formation of historical memory in the youth environment. The relevance of the study is due to the identification of factors affecting the upbringing of patriotic values among the younger generation. The leading method in the study of this problem was the questionnaire method, which revealed the level of interest in the study of history among the students of the city of Ulyanovsk and the factors contributing to the formation of patriotic values and a positive attitude to the historical past of the native land and the country. The sample of the study included 400 respondents from 18 to 23 years old studying at universities in the city of Ulyanovsk. The article shows that more than half of the respondents are interested in studying history and believe that knowledge and understanding of historical processes of the past is necessary to analyze the situation in the present. The majority of students agreed that teachers and university professors have the greatest influence on the formation of views on Russian history. At the same time, it was noted that the respondents want to participate in live discussions and debates. All this requires high professionalism from history teachers who actively influence the worldview of modern students.
