Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the content of the discussion about the intelligentsia, which characterizes the public consciousness of modern Russia. Ideas about the essence, properties, historical and social functions of the intelligentsia are considered in a broad historical context, including the events of 2022. Various approaches to the assessment of the state, ideological, spiritual, moral, cultural mission of the intelligentsia are analyzed. It is stated that the union of intelligentsia and intelligence gives rise to a special type of consciousness, which is congenial to the tasks of cultural construction, the goals of creativity and creation. The logical foundations of the public discussion of 2022 are revealed, as well as the motives of manipulations and speculations aimed at discrediting the intelligentsia. It is proved that the ideas imposed on society about the allegedly anti-national nature of the intelligentsia and its “anti-state” essence have all the signs of deliberate falsification aimed at disintegration of public consciousness. It is argued that the recognition of the “collective responsibility” of the intelligentsia for the statements and actions of some of its representatives contradicts the scientific principles of truth, validity and objectivity. The intelligentsia is characterized as a socio-professional group that conscientiously and responsibly solves the most important state tasks. It is concluded that the level of public trust in the intelligentsia remains high - even taking into account sporadic outbreaks of anti-intellectual rhetoric.
