Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the completed eight-volume edition of the Historical Atlas of Poland. Detailed Maps of the 16th Century from the perspective of the history of towns and cities. In discussing the main maps and commentaries, special attention has been paid to the criteria for classifying settlements as towns, not only legal and systemic but also functional. A separate section is devoted to the published plans of 34 towns with the commentaries on them. It can be stated that methodological continuity and a relatively homogeneous research questionnaire were maintained in the volumes published between 1958 and 2021. The series has a collected edition (2021) and an English-language edition (2014).
