Summary/Abstract: The article describes historical and stylistic analysis conducted in criminal investigations concerning responsibility for counterfeiting or remaking antiquities in order to sell them on antiquities market. At the beginning, the authors depicts the legal meaning of an „antique“ in Polish law and outlines the doctrine views about the analysis. The next part is focused on the formal aspects of historical and stylistic analysis, which are compared to the physico-chemical analysis. The final part concerns the criminal offence regulated in Art. 109a of the Polish Regulation on the Protection and Care of Antiquities, as well as defined by an ad hoc expert. The conclusions highlight an important role of cultural researchers in the criminal justice system.
