Summary/Abstract: In the rhetorical tradition, enumeration has gained an opinion of a neutral figure which is focused on details and reflects the chaos of the world. For this reason, it is probably used in those works (both fictional and non-fictional) whose purpose is to create an impression that the story has been presented objectively and to build reader’s confidence in the narrator’s impartiality and insightful description. The aim of this study is to verify these assumptions following the example of one type of enumeration, i.e. noun sets, on the basis of the material of Polish literary journalism of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and thus to examine how the forms of these enumerations (with particular emphasis on the sets composed of proper names, synonyms and abstract concepts) are related to the elements of order and chaos, specific and general, subjectivity and objectivity, and which of them actually constitute the organizational principle in these works (or their fragments).
