Summary/Abstract: In connection with social and tax reforms carried out by the Austrian authorities after the first partition of Poland, the author refers to the then-resulting, increased interest of the nobility in even the oldest documents that would legitimize their status and possessions. This sometimes produced attempts to recover forgotten or expired rights, or to rectify the boundaries between neighboring estates. Such cases took place in the districts of Zamość and Żółkiew, where, in order to gain access to forests, landowner of Chodywańce referred to Siemowit IV’s charter of 1422 , as well as on the border between the Zamoyski Estate and the so-called “Narol State” of Feliks Antoni Łoś, where the Zamoyski Estate laid a claim to a sizable area of over 1100 ha on the basis of the demarcation deed of z 1578.
