Summary/Abstract: Discussions about the diversity and difference of definitions of the concept of ideology and the theoretical approaches to what ideology really is and how the concept is used in many fields continue. In this aspect, the concept has a structure dominated by definitional uncertainty. Considering different results it may reveal, it is important by which of the ideological definitions religion and its social reflections are examined and interpreted. For this reason, how the concept of ideology is in communication and interaction with the Sociology of Religion, which focuses on the social dimensions of religion, and in terms of its purpose and function is a matter that should be examined. In this study, firstly, after the short and general historical process of the concept of ideology has been revealed, various and different definitions of the concept have been emphasized. There is no generally accepted method in social sciences regarding the usability of the concept of ideology in religious analysis. However, there are approaches to the application of the concept to the analysis of religion. In the context of the religious analysis of thinkers such as Marx, Durkheim, Weber and Troeltsch, the position, effect and limitation of the concept in terms of the purpose and function of the Sociology of Religion have been tried to be analyzed.
