Summary/Abstract: Venice is one of the most wonderful destinations in the world. A city built in the middle of the sea defies the laws of physics and even the imagination. The construction technique used by the founders remain the same nowadays. The palaces, gondolas and works of art bring the myth to our epoch. Serenissima inspired poets, novelists, painters, architects or film directors from ancient times to the present day, being at the same time one of the most wanted holyday whither especially for romantic couples. Venetian chronotope is representative for the balance between the forces of the universe: sky and sea keep alive this old fortress that became a beautiful metropolis. Despite the brilliance of its palaces and beautiful views, Venice also shows its dark side in the murky waters and in the mould that grinds even the strongest walls. The literary work inspired by Venetian chronotope offer a huge variety of frames indicating multiple facets of the city. This study points how Venice appears in Casanova’s novelized autobiography, written as memoirs in the last decade of his life, but also in the works of authors such as Dante Alighieri, William Shakespeare, Mihai Eminescu, Thomas Mann, Emmanuel Roblès or Jean-Michel Thibaux. The research is based on the geocritical approach of the analyzed works.
