Summary/Abstract: The concept of functional data, defined by Ramsey and Dalzell (1991), has led to the emergence of the field of functional data analysis, which helps to interpret the structure and relations in the data much more easily, especially by using visual approaches, by transforming the quantitative data observed at discrete points into functional data. The science mapping technique is exploratory research that reveals the development of a field of interest, such as functional data analysis, in the literature. Thus, focal points such as publication type, publisher, author, origin, citation and reference information and keywords can be displayed together over the years. In this study, the Web of Science (WoS) database example is discussed. In the statistical method studies in WoS, 6494 publications related to functional data analysis were examined with the science mapping technique. In the last 32 years, it has been seen that various analysis methods used in connection with functional data have been developed. It has been determined that the application of machine learning techniques to functional data is being examined in the literature, especially as of 2018. In addition, decision trees, one of the supervised machine learning methods, are associated with functional data.
