Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at presenting the places where people have gone in order to seek cure for their diseases. Through the very long span of years we witness the changes related to the settings that provided shelter and cure for patients. Thus, we notice the transition from the presence of patients in temples (where they prayed at the shrines of gods asking them to be healed) to the accommodation in hospitals where they have been taken care of firstly by nuns and monks and later by doctors. The miracles performed by saints to heal the sufferers had an influence in naming the hospitals after the names of those saints. At present, there are hospitals named after saints that accommodate patients suffering from the diseases that were once cured by the patron saints of those hospitals.
