Summary/Abstract: Pre-Raphaelite aesthetics elements and revolt against pre-imposed social boundaries influenced the religious poetry of Christina Rossetti. Her poetry takes the form of aesthetic meditations on the mystery of creation, sacrifice, death, in true visions of the beauty of divine creation. Victorian Christian spirituality is questioned as she constantly seeks for answers to existential dissatisfaction. Words become the means by which dialogue with divinity illustrates the inner self, through which she rediscovers, explores experiences and projects realities. Main themes of Rossetti’s poetry focus on melancholy, disappointment, return to nature as source of divinity, through hymns, sonnets or odes to the glory of God as the sacramental moment of the beginning of wisdom.
