AŃTOP, ĆRULKI AND WINTBOJTEL, OR ABOUT GERMANISMS IN KRAJNA’S CULINARY DIALECTS

Summary/Abstract: German loanwords constitute an immanent part of the lexical resources of Krajna’s dialects (which has also been stressed more than once in academic discourse). Taking into account the extremely complicated history of Krajna, a region located in north-western Poland, at the border of Wielkopolska and Pomorze, the presence of elements of German provenance in the speech of the Krajniaks – remarkably lively, high-frequency and relatively easily identifiable entities – should not come as a surprise. The aim of this article is a multi-level – genetic, structural and semantic – characterisation of Krajniaks’ Germanisms, belonging to one of the most numerous and varied thematic fields in Polish (also in folk) language, which is unquestionably culinary. The subject of a closer analysis is the differential vocabulary (in relation to the national language), extracted from two lexicographical studies, documenting the linguistic richness of the “land on the frontier”, namely: the five-volume Słownictwo krajniackie. Słownik gwary wsi Podróżna w Złotowskiem by Władysław Brzeziński (1982–2009) and popularscientific Mały słownik gwary krajeńskiej written by Jowita Kęcińska-Kaczmarek (2017), as well as dialectological atlases: Atlas językowy kaszubszczyzny i dialektów sąsiednich (1964–1978) and Atlas języka i kultury ludowej Wielkopolski (1979–2005).
