Summary/Abstract: Based on the oldest Polish cookbooks published in the series “Monumenta Poloniae Culinaria” (Polish Culinary Monuments) edited by Jarosław Dumanowski, the article presents lexical means used to express the category of shape in old Polish recipes. They refer to names related to the formation of amorphous products as well as portioning, dividing and slicing of products. The names of the objects serving as prototypes for the various shapes are described, including names that continue to this day and names that have been forgotten. The article is a contribution to the history of Polish culinary vocabulary.
