Summary/Abstract: This article comments on the etymology and motivations of official names (oikonyms) of places of the pre-war commune of Turgiele (lith. Turgeliai) in the Vilnius voivodship, now belonging to the Vilnius district in Lithuania and the Ashmyany region in Belarus. This area is an area of intensive Lithuanian-Slavic linguistic and cultural contact, which has had and continues to have a strong influence on the formation of specific forms of toponyms. Onomastic materials were extracted from pre-war sources. Based on them, the author analyzed the collected oikonyms and attempted to describe the basic methods of their Slavization.
