Summary/Abstract: Space is valuable. Its resources are not inexhaustible and nowadays they are shrinking faster and faster. To use them in a sustainable way, it is important to include brownfields in the socio-economic circulation. Their current condition often demands the necessity to carry out work related to cleaning the area and its restoration. However, gaining new functions, they again become part of the urban system, which itself also benefits from it. The article discusses the directions of transformations of post-industrial areas in central part of the Silesian Voivodeship and their ownership structure in 2014–2019. Based on the data obtained from the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, an in-depth analysis of post-industrial areas was carried out. Out of 680 sites identified as post-industrial, the study area was narrowed down to the central subregion covering 430 sites. Based on the obtained data and taking into account the limitations of the base to only a few directions of transformation, the most frequently undertaken options for the transformation of post-industrial areas in the central subregion were presented. The discussion also attempted to define options for further development in this area and identified factors that may significantly impede the transformation of brownfield sites.
