Summary/Abstract: The European media Coach Initiative project has the strategic goal of raising the level of media literacy in several countries in southern Europe. Apart from Bulgaria, these countries also include Romania, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus. The leading partner is the Academy of Media and Society in Netherlands, an institution that has been active in this field for almost 15 years. The key objectives of the project include: design of a training program that replicates the Dutch model but is tailored to the specific needs of each participating country; licensing of at least 100 trainers willing to work with different target groups; maintaining and promoting the process and making it sustainable. The project funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ program was implemented 2018–2021. As a result, over 300 specialists capable of teaching media literacy among various target groups were trained and licensed in Bulgaria, a postgraduate program in media literacy was launched, and three monographs, two studies and five articles were published.
