Summary/Abstract: The author analyzing the changing music scene in Finland explains how, on the one hand, big record companies with seats mainly in Helsinki introduce Finnish music into the international arena, and at the same time how smaller record labels focused more on artistic value rather than on commercial success, promote young, alternative bands. Presenting groups from various musical backgrounds, Järvi shows the regional divisions of Finnish music, where the eastern part of the country is the base for heavy metal groups, Tampere is the glamrock centre, and Pori where mainly avant-garde bands are to be found.
