Summary/Abstract: The importance of the Jewish community for the Romanian territory emerges from the presence of its members over the centuries, as well as from the active involvement in socio-cultural life. Its specificity and numerical evolution have constantly influenced the relations with authorities. The original space of Jewish migrants is diverse, from western and central to northeastern Europe, the reasons being some common: finding a territory to identify with and in which they can build a community without being assimilated and forced to give up their own beliefs and values.
