Summary/Abstract: The role of satisfying basic psychological needs is crucial for the development of motivation. In the modern age, the fundamental needs of man are those of a psychological nature. White is the first to conceptualize basic psychological needs, in agreement with the theory of self-determination and identify the importance of meeting three needs: the need for autonomy, the need for competence, the need for relationships. From this perspective, personality traits, attitudes and behaviors determine motivation, which develops in accordance with individual and social factors. Basic psychological needs are sources of intrinsic motivation, with a particularly important role in the psychological health of the individual. We appreciate the fact that the satisfaction of basic psychological needs has the effect of fulfilling the person, which means that his motivation is developed. This implies the identification of optimal mobilizing springs, which generate a positive, self-directed motivation. If the basic psychological needs are not met, we cannot talk about a development of motivation, as the resources underlying the personal growth of the individual have not been identified.
