Summary/Abstract: In the study we approach the concepts of ecological reading and ecocriticism, by circumscribing the emergence and evolution of these notions and outlining their potentials and limitations. We apply this rather recent type of criticism to the best novels written by the Hungarian writer Albert Wass, A funtineli boszorkány, translated into Romanian under the title Lângă Scaunul Domnului. We reflect upon the way the human psyche and mind resonate to the rhythms of nature. The aim of the study is to investigate the modalities in which ecocritical reading can be applied to this text and the ways in which new meanings emerge if we approach this work through the lens of ecological reading: the role and importance of nature, cycles of nature, the special knowledge that people belonging to nature possess, the protective space of the mountains as the territory of inner freedom, the advancement of civilization and the losses suffered by nature and the natural man.
