Summary/Abstract: Thousands of Russian icons are to be found in Bulgarian churches, museums and homes. Replicas of Russian miraculous icons of the Virgin which include the Virgin (our Lady) of Vladimir, the Virgin of kazan, the Virgin of the Burning Bush, the Virgin joy of All Who Sorrow are of particular interest and two problems are considered here. What kind of reception did these icons receive among Bulgarians; did they know anything about the prototypes, their history and particular functioning? And also, had these icons any influence upon the work of Bulgarian zographs? There are Russian printed books with information about miraculous icons and texts about their liturgical praise as well as manuscripts with similar texts. During the Bulgarian Revival almanacs were issued with instructions about the special functions of some Russian miraculous icons. Examples of the influ- ence of such icons on Bulgarian art are mentioned in the present work: icons from Tryavna of the Vladimir Virgin and the Divine Wisdom of kiev, a replica of the Virgin of the Burning Bush, and some icons whose probable prototype is the Virgin of korsun.
