Summary/Abstract: It is the purpose of this study to present how autobiographical writings can slip within disciplinary boundaries. The autobiography of an 18th century Transylvanian noble man called László Székely includes different genres from autobiographical poems to diaries and memoires in order to show different aspect of the same life-experience, revealing in the same time the conditions and limits of modern self-fashioning. We consider Székely’s work as one of our few modern autobiographies capable to sustain self-refl ection, focusing on individual experiences rather than political and economical circumstances. This personal approach of past and his revealed subjectivity makes the author’s work unique among the eighteen-century Transylvanian ego-documents.
