Summary/Abstract: In the article an unknown report of the history of the alleged relic of St John the Baptist is discussed. The relic was supposed to be kept in the Brzeżany Castle, from where it was taken to the local orthodox church. The relic allegedly was a gift from the Moldavian Hospodar Stefan Petriceicu to Mikołaj Hieronim Sieniawski (1645-1683), Grand Standard Bearer of the Crown, for saving the Hospodar’s wife from Tartars. The author of the report that was written in 1735 was Mikołaj Dyakowski, the Latyczów Master of the Pantry, earlier only known as the author of the story of the Vienna Battle of 1683. The discussed text of Relacyja is compared with a similar description published in the Nowe Ateny by Benedykt Chmielowski. Apart from presenting the contents of the report and the circumstances of writing it, the text also describes the figure of its author, whose brief biography is complemented with a few significant facts.
