Summary/Abstract: It is possible to find the Prophet's hadiths on almost every aspect of a person's life. Because hadiths are the verbal version of the life of the Messenger of Allah, who communicated and explained the Qur'an and practiced it. Hadith/s on some subject(s) have spread among the people due to the interest and enthusiasm shown in him/them without paying attention to their authenticity. One of such hadiths is the one about trade, which is the subject of this study: " Nine out of ten of the sustenance is in trade. The rest is in animal husbandry." The aim of this study is to determine the source and authenticity of this hadith, which is popular among people and used to base the superiority of trade on hadith. The study of this narration, which has not been studied and is frequently mentioned among the people, reveals the importance of this research. As a matter of fact, after touching on the subject of sustenance and trade in the introduction, the concepts of mashur and mushtahir were included, and then, using the documentation method, one of the qualitative research methods, the narrators of the narration were identified and analyzed by scanning the works related to Islamic sciences, especially hadith. As a result of the research, it was seen that the hadith " Nine out of ten of the sustenance is in trade." was not narrated in the al-Kutub al-Sitta and other main hadith sources. Instead, it was found that the narration, which was narrated with isnad in a few hadith-related works on some subjects, was narrated without isnad in books in various fields (dictionary, hadith commentary, fiqh, etc.). However, it should be pointed out that the hadith is reported in some hadith books that have not survived thanks to studies such as al-zawāid and index. But at the end of all this research, it is possible to say that the hadith is weak.
