Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to examine the coins of Murad I in terms of numismatics, based on the samples found in the excavations of Eskişehir Karacahisar Castle between 2019-2022, and to evaluate the data that these coins are a source for the history of Karacahisar Castle. Karacahisar Castle is approximately 7 km from Eskişehir center. It is a medieval castle located in the distance. The castle, which is understood to have been inhabited since the 7th century in the light of archaeological data, was conquered by Ertuğrul Gazi in the 1230s and by Osman Gazi in 1288. The castle is the settlement where the first sermon was read and the first practices related to the institutionalization of the principality were carried out. 281 of the 722 coins found in the archaeological studies carried out in the castle between 2019 and 2022 belong to Murad I. It is known that there are three types of silver and five types of copper (mangır) samples minted during the reign of Murad I. Among the coins of Karacahisar Castle, examples of five of the eight types are found. The coins of Murad I, the most concentrated group of coins in the castle, were minted between 1362-1389, and these coins are the source of important inferences about Karacahisar and Ottoman history.
