The mountain literature in the space of performance of a sporting achievement

Summary/Abstract: A sporting achievement, especially in the domain of Himalayan mountaineering, is always a performative activity. Both in the historical perspective and nowadays, it is related to the theatralization of social life, and even its ritualization. Each type of mountaineering achievement is an act of a specific performance, which is also realized „after the fact” through a series of activities: giving interviews, participating in meetings with the audience and mountain festivals, publishing books etc. The last example causes the so-called mountain literature can be considered as a component of a performance of sporting achievement.
