Summary/Abstract: Bernard Potocki was a polish nobleman, who travelled to Italy twice. From second trip which took place in 1821–1822, he brought memories, which decided to write up and publish. One of the visited cities was Venice. Potocki, in his travel account, describes route through the city, buildings, which captivated him, tells their history and makes a historiosophical reflexion on the fate of nations. The article below describes Bernard Potocki’s account of Venice, preceded by a brief historical outline of Serenissima in the turbulent last years of its existence.
