Summary/Abstract: The article presents some of the problems of Gdynia’s education in the years 1927–1939. Gdynia, being a symbol of the developing opportunities of the reborn Polish state, also became a city of unsatisfied educational needs of its inhabitants. The reasons for this were clear disproportions between the rapidly growing population and the staffing or premises capacity of Gdynia schools. The troubles of the Gdynia education revealed themselves at the level of general education. On the other hand, general secondary education had to be created in Gdynia from scratch. Youth from Gdynia was forced to commute to secondary schools in Wejherowo or Gdańsk. There was a lack of a state general secondary school that could be attended by young people from less affluent families. Also, families with better financial resources suffered from the inability to educate their children in the local secondary school. The research analysis carried out so far shows that the shaping of the school network is influenced by many factors.
