Summary/Abstract: In the present publication, which is part of a large-scale study of crimes against the person and property in socialist Bulgaria (1944-1989), for the first time data by year on the number of thefts registered in the Ministry of the Interior are published, including and by subtypes – of public and personal property. Thefts are constant and varied, with peak values in the late 1960s and the second half of the 1980s. Young people (up to 18 years) and Roma are analyzed as groups actively committing thefts in the period. The topic is “borderline” for many sciences – history, sociology, psychology, criminal law, criminology, etc.
