Summary/Abstract: Being alone can be everybody’s experience. It is often accompanied by a reduction in the quality of life, which was also assumed in our study. In order to scrutinize this relationship a group of youth with mild mental retardation was examined. The methods employed for the study were a diagnostic survey and a survey technique. Three research instruments were used: a questionnaire to study loneliness among children and adolescents – The Syracuse-Amsterdam-Groningen Sociametric Scale), the Satisfaction With Life Scale questionnaire and the Life Orientation Test-Revised. The results were statistically analyzed and used in an attempt to draw general conclusions.
