About the Belarusan influence on Viciebsk Old Believers

Summary/Abstract: The article studies aspects of the Belarusan influence on Old Believers who live in Viciebsk Region. Previous researches devoted to Old Believers who have been living on the Belarusan territory for more than 300 years, present them in the channel of Russian culture and Russian studies, minimizing or ignoring Belarusan contacts and influences. Such approach does not take into account the evolution of culture, assimilation, adaptation and mutual cultural influences which lead to linguistic and other cultural borrowings and transformation of Old Believers’ identity. У артыкуле разглядаюцца аспекты беларускага ўплыву на асяродкі старавераў на Віцебшчыне. Раней старавераў, што жывуць больш за 300 гадоў на беларускай тэрыторыі, разглядалі ў рэчышчы расейскай культуры і расейскіх даследаванняў пры мінімізацыі ці ігнараванні беларускіх кантактаў і ўплываў. Такі падыход не ўлічвае эвалюцыі культуры, асіміляцыі, адаптацыі, узаемнага культурнага ўплыву, што прыводзіць да моўных і іншых культурных запазычанняў, трансфармацыі ідэнтычнасці старавераў.
