Summary/Abstract: The author presents one of the most outstanding figures of the Romanian Jewish elite. Halevy belongs to the same category of encyclopedic minds as Moses Gaster and I. Niemirower, all embracing modern Judaism as their creed and being deeply involved in the bettering of their co-religionists. Halevy's main points of interest were Bible and Talmudic exegesis and the history of Jewish medicine, but it was his monographic studies of the most important Jewish communities in Romania, of Bucharest and Iasi, that made him one of the most important contributors to the history of the Romanian Jews.
