Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to study recent social events in the Arab world through the lens of socio-economic analysis. Purpose of the paper is to get some insights by comparative socio-economic analysis into possible causes of social turbulence in the Arab world and to assess its direction in the future. Although each country of the Arab world deserves to be studied separately analytical method of the paper is holistic. Results indicate that Arab world as a whole significantly lags behind the developed countries in numerous socio-economic indicators. The situation is particularly worrying in political freedoms, gender inequality, visible in poor political participation, education and labour force of women, as well as in economic growth. As a result, population expresses its dissatisfaction in the current protests, as reaction to the long year limitations in political freedoms, fettering of basic human rights and, to less extent, to low level of living standard. Solving these problems could help in achievement of long term stability and realization of progress in that world.
