Summary/Abstract: On the occasion of the 1848 Revolution, the Romanians in Transylvania requested from the Austrian authorities the establishment of a university. Initially projected in Blaj, then in Cluj and finally in Sibiu, the Romanian university could be achieved in 1864 with the support of co-nationals living across the mountains. New information fructified in the present article shows that the Metropolitan of Moldova, Calinic Miclescu, played a very important part in the collection of large sums of money used for the completion of the project.
