Summary/Abstract: This article, based on a meticulous analysis of Kate Morton’s novels, underlines not only the author’s style, but also several features and sources of inspiration which lie behind the enchanting pages of her books. The purpose of this article is also to present a clear understanding of literature, and particularly of Australian literature. Kate Morton is one of the very few authors who have the special gift to portray complex characters and create a unique atmosphere, which transports the reader into another life, filled with thoughts and feelings. History. Mystery. Memory. Secrets. Time. The interweaving of the past and the present. Knots and tangles of the family. All these brilliant elements and themes guide the readers toward that so called ‘literary desire,’ which leads them to immerse themselves in Morton’s novels.
