Summary/Abstract: One of the most notorious crimes of the interwar period, the so-called Gorgonova case, clearly demonstrated that it was a topic electrifying public opinion, getting excited about press descriptions of the crime and accounts of the trial. Similar interest was aroused by high-profile Lodz crimes – the murder of Zosia Zajdlówna, the triple murder in a piano store committed by Stanislaw Łaniucha, and the criminal activities of the Robin Hood of Bałuty – Blind Max. The interest in criminal stories is evidenced by their infiltration into urban folklore and popular culture. Songs were sung about the heroes of these stories, and they also became characters in episodic novels.
