Summary/Abstract: Dolor y gloria illustrates Almodóvar’s ambivalence in relation to his own life story as fictional matter. The film’s most important scene in terms of narrative, structure and symbolism describes the young protagonist’s sudden homosexual awakening. An analysis of this primal scene unveils numerous mythological elements, both narrative and symbolic.
