Summary/Abstract: This study presents some lesser-known aspects regarding the lives of Nazaria and Olimpiada, the nuns who, under the spiritual guidance of Saint Paisie of Neamț, founded and organized the monastery of Văratic in the 18th century. The introductory study contains biographical details of these two nuns and a presentation of the documentary sources from which these testimonies were taken – three booklets printed in the second half of the 19th century – which are included in the Appendix in a transliterated edition, from Cyrillic into Latin alphabet: „The Life of Mother Nazaria, the First Abbess of Văraticu (1788-1814)” („Viața maicei Nazaria, întâia stareță de Văraticu)”; „The Founding or Beginning of the Varaticu Monastery, for Eternal Knowledge, was Compiled in the Year of the Incarnation of Christ – 1834” („Talpa sau Începutul Monastirei Varaticul, spre veșnică cunoștință s-a alcătuit la anul de la Întruparea Domnului Hristos – 1834); and „The History of the Establishment of Varaticu Monastery, [compiled in 1857] by nun Epistimia Hagiu” („Istoria formărei Monastirei Varaticul, [alcătuită în 1857] de maica Epistimia Hagiu”).
