Summary/Abstract: Alexandru Philippide is one of the most valuable poets of our literature. In his poetry were employed various mythical motifs and themes, such as: the journey into extra-terrestrial spaces, the description of the gloomy realm of the dead, the motif of Mums or the eternal traveller ahasverus, the devil, the Promethean motif in unusual lyrical interpretations. His culture, impressive, embarrasses later generations, but Philippide’s poetry „is stubborn to remain what it has always been- an intellectualist poetry, of subtle, discreet, well-hidden modernity’’.
